I am sure you would agree when I say that this has been the fastest 12 months ever! It has been an incredible journey for all those involved with Jade Lewis & Friends Inc, giving female prisoners a second chance at life.

Reflecting on 2011, I remember the many people I have been so fortunate to meet, get to know, love and laugh with along the way. People are what made my year one of the best ever and it has made me stop to appreciate those that have come into my life along the way.

No matter how fast people may come in and out of our lives, we must never miss the opportunity to tell these people how much we care about them.

As Christmas fast approaches in the coming days, we can be reminded how God never missed His opportunity when He sent Jesus to the world. God gave us His best in His only son. I found a beautiful little list of how we can make Christmas special for someone this year. I loved it so much, I wanted to share it with you. I also love this quote: “A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future and accepts you just the way you are.” Rather than live a life of regret, thank those friends in your life that you cherish so much by telling them so. Life is so short that we don’t want to miss this opportunity.

Jade Lewis and Friends Inc: Giving the gift of Hope this Christmas

Over the next week our team will be busy blessing current and ex-women prisoners by:

- Giving out a beautiful Natio gift pack to all the girls at Rangeview Detention Centre;
- Send a gorgeous "She's Blessed" bracelet to some of our former Step UP women;
- Send out food hampers to ensure that these women have food for their families on Christmas Day;
- Provide brand new wrapped toys for their children; and
- Supply some of the gifts for the teenagers of the women at Bandyup Women's Prison for their Christmas party.

On behalf of all our team and the women we represent in the prison system, we thank you for joining us on this journey. You have allowed us to love people by the grace of God and make their Christmas celebration more special than ever. You have all amazed us with your generosity. What an amazing experience I had meeting HRH Queen Elizabeth II this year! It was a thrill, and a complete surprise, when Tristan and I both received a letter from Premier Colin Barnett in October inviting us to a special invitation-only function to welcome the Queen in Perth. While at the venue, at Government House, five Western Australian charities were asked to personally greet the Queen – and I had the wonderful opportunity to impress my curtsey on the royal monarch. It was a privilege and an honour not just for me, but for all of Jade Lewis & Friends Inc. The Queen was absolutely stunning, her skin like silk and her smile so warm. On behalf of everyone at Jade Lewis & Friends Inc, we thank Mr Barnett for this once in a lifetime and exclusive appointment.

Second Chance Day Tuesday 1 May 2012 - WACA Grounds

Exciting times lay ahead in the new year for Jade Lewis & Friends Inc! Our newest and latest initiative, Second Chance Day, will be officially launched on 1 May 2012. Second Chance Day will be all about raising awareness of female prisoners and we’ll be using a yellow ribbon to symbolize the meaning. WA ACC community Care Workshops 21 November 2011

On November 21, churches from all over Western Australia gathered to be part of the ACC community care workshops, a series of learning workshops which was are designed to equip churches with the skills to establish quality Christ-centered community care programs and services. Ps Donna Crouch from Hillsong Church and Ps Anne Bakker from Paradise Community Church travelled to present the workshops and as the state coordinator, I was immensely impressed with the level of commitment and enthusiasm displayed by the state’s churches with a desire to help the community.

Part one of training has been completed and it included: Needs Analysis and Community Consultation and Development of Purpose and Strategy for Community Services Organisations.

CONGRATULATIONS TO: One of our prison women who recently had her writing published in a book. We are so proud of what some of these women are doing. There are great things ahead for them.

My Freedom in Prison:
"For me, freedom was found in the most unlikely of places. Although I am in prison, it ws here that I learnt to feel free for the first time in my life. It gave me the strength and support to restore myself to the person I always wanted to be but was never “allowed” to be. It has also given me hope for my future so I move forward with the belief that I will find my path to forgiveness on the road ahead."

Just Say NO To Drugs Schools update

With a great amount of school presentations coming our way, Tristan and I continue to love the opportunity to share a powerful “Just Say NO” to drugs message. Here are some of our favourite feedbacks this term:

Many, many thanks for your wonderful keynote speech at our Year 12 graduation. We have had numerous enquiries about you and requests for your details. Your message was well received and left quite an impression on people. Many folk commented on how courageous you are and I agree. I think your message blended in beautifully with what I have been trying to get through to the kids over the past four and a bit years.

I am a school counsellor at a school which you visited recently. I have been lucky enough to see the effect you have had on some of our year eight students when you spoke to them earlier this year. There are a couple of girls in particular who have been impacted deeply, one who has turned her life around from the darkness of drug use completely, to a much more positive and life giving direction.
